I don't see any big difference either way, and IMO it can be a good way to remove waste before it breaks down if you have an issue with high nitrate and phosphate. WebJun 2, 2006 · Posts: 904. DIY Filter Sock Holder. Here is what I came up with for a filter sock holder. I used 1/4" acrylic and weldon #4 to glue on the sides. I heated the acrylic with a torch. The bolts are taped 1/4-20, nylon bolts are from us plastics. This is how it is going to hang in the sump. If you have any questions or comments feel free to fire away.
