Webb15 sep. 2010 · I hate direct mounting and the perils of wrecking pickup baseplate threads. My sonic theory = pickups attached to the body would vibrate at the same frequency of body, therefore causing some phase-self-cancellation. An isolated pickup (in the ring) is getting the most accurate measure of the body vibration by not moving.

WebbThe biggest draw for me off the bat was that it seemed simpler to mount the DNZ than the rings - seems hard to mess up, whereas I'd have to guarantee that both rings are perfectly aligned along the axis of the barrel (and I don't have the tools or kits for that).

I personally think direct mount pickups are overrated.
